??? You really aren't missing anything. The "stock" foam filter was not very good to begin with but the after market K&N or AMSOIL filters are very good in what they do. The after market filters that I mentioned before will filter smaller and more particles than most paper filters can think about. The side benefit is that the after market filter will flow more air than a paper one will. As we all know the less air restriction the better our FC's will run.

I'm wondering where you folks live/drive that you need reusable air filters?
Must be really dusty there.
I can understand the need back when these FCs were daily drivers for
everyone who owned one. I don't understand how you are needing to change
air filters in (say) 2,000 to 3,000 miles on paved roads each year. Paper
ones are not really THAT expensive and a whole lot less messy.
The last vehicle I owned that had an oil bath filter was a 1936 Ford.
What am I missing?
