The purpose of the wave washer is to allow the arm to have some movement while it is affixed to the secondary brake shoe. If yours is missing, you can possibly get a replacement at the auto parts store. Most cars of the era used them. If they don't have them individually, then see if they have a spring kit for the rear brakes. It is usually included in the brake kit parts. Paul in CT

In the 61 shop manual on page 5-10 under installation #3
On the rear brakes only, lubricate fulcrum end of parking brake lever and the pin...., then attach lever and to secondary shoe with pivot pin, vave washer, and tru-arc retainer ring.
Now that you mention it I do believe that on other makes they used a wave washer on the cap end of the adjuster, so does any one know if the FC's did? If so where does one get this wave washer?
