"...The  grommets are actually a combination grommit/socket/plug. Find them 
under the  dash, and you can unplug them from that side. Once unplugged,  the
grommet-sealing  'lips' can be pushed or pulled out of the  hole..."
 
On my 64 Deluxe, reaching way up through the light bucket hole, I was able  
to unplug mine from outside (but not until the guy at the resto shop had 
already  cut the wires, thinking there was no other way).
