[FC] GB painted grille or chrome grille? process name...

Just dropped the grill off today. Estimate is $150 (Canucklehead bucks). The dude took a piece of abs pipe he had "chromed" and tossed it across the show room. No sign of abrasion or cracking at all. He has an old style Hemi sitting in the window with valve covers done with regular clear coat... very yellowed. Other pieces "Cosmichromed" showed no sign of yellowing.
I will be the guinea pig on this one. Anyone out there wants to go for it... I get 10%, eh?
Oh... point me towards a $300 NOS grille... QUICK!

For $300, I would think that you could find a NOS one. I have heard of the process, but am not convinced that it is going to hold up in the long haul to environmental issues. Paul in CT

    Hi again!
    The process is called "Cosmichrome"
Kinda cheesy sounding, but it really looks great. The item is sprayed with a
special primer, the sanded to 1000, the sprayed with a chemical agent to
"open the pores" of the primer, the sprayed with pure distilled water, then
the chrome spray which is a silvery substance (mostly water) that gets
soaked up by the primer. Super shiny now... clear coat goes on to protect
it. Normal clearcoats yellow from UV. This stuff will not discolour.
Apparently, this is the only shop in BC.
Anyone want to send a small item to experiment on?

Cost for the GB grille is expected to be around $300.

    Merv
