As it is very hard to find good FC rims, how do you go about making ok rims look as good as new?
By ok, I mean there may be a very slight amount of pitting, some scratch marks from hubcaps. Otherwise the rims are straight and true, no cracks, and safe.
Can pitted areas be restored somehow?
I also know that finding rims that are not bent is almost impossible. I am guilty of rigging up a snipe on a pipe wrench and convincing an edge to go back very close to where it should be. I don't like the idea of bashing away at it with maul. Too noisy!
That procedure is not that hard, but the other problem I have encountered is a rim that was running like an eccentric. Straight, but the wheel itself was not centered.
I would imagine if you had a pretty good rim all round, but it had a crack in it, a welding specialist might be able to weld the crack and anneal the entire rim and re-temper it to original specs...???
Safety is number one.
Be careful out there.
My two cents
