i guess i would look at the bottoms of the lifters and if they look ,ok(no
swirls or concave wear) use them over after a carefull cleaning. i keep lifters
against the same lobes they came from. i made several "boards" i use for
various jobs like this.also look at cam lobes carefully. i drilled holes to fit
lifters with a forstner bit (makes a nice flat bottom hole) in a chunk of 2 x 6 x
@ 12" or so. i left lots of room between them almost same spacing as when
they are in the engine. i mark the gear end.then i work on them one at a time
cleaning and checking.if i have the whole engine apart i put the cam in between
them all in correct orientation. if i have extra cams and lifters around they
are stored on these boards. i put blaster in each lifter and assembly lube or
thicker oil or vaseline on the cam . them i wrap the whole mess in saran wrap
to store. i have 3 or 4 ready to go at most times. i just hate to waste good
original corvair lifters if the bottoms look good. they always seem to adjust
nicer than most new replacemements.
