man that still sounds like a vacumn problem. try spraying water from a spray
bottle around any vac hoses/connections or try propane enrichment...use a
torch( not lit!), around bases of carbs and all vacumn connections with engine
running. if there is a leak it will suck the propane and change the way its
running. base gaskets at carbs, pcv valve hose etc. that smell is probably from
running lean and does it "diesel" when turned off? if not vac leak maybe a
plugged main jet... try a "cuff job" putting your hand over the top of the carb
one at a time while runnig a little faster than idle...if one picks up when
cuffed it is the lean one.sometimes cuffing will stir up crud in carbs and fix
the problem(at least temporarily) it is also a good idea to check the point
gap and lube the distributer cam. regards, tim colson
