I sell them re welded and polished. The chrome on the snaps is buffed off
and
the brass is showing on the ones that I have in stock presently. I am out
of
new chrome snaps until I get some more this fall. I sell them for $175 per
side exchanged with the original snaps and $225 per side with new snaps.
The
core piece must be in repairable condition and not have any holes drilled in
it. When they have new snaps installed, they look just like NOS pieces.
Thanks Paul

took some looking to find these ..... I don't know if they are still in
business any longer. I had work done by Reynolds in MA about 15 / 20
years
ago and it was good. Problem is that today, parts are hard to come by.

I would suggest that you have one of the defective speedometers rebuilt
by
a
independent rebuilder. I know that there is one in Danvers MA that does
them
for a lot of the car restoration shops. It isn't cheap, but it is the
only
way to get a reliable one. After 40 years, they get tired, the grease
gets
dry and the magnets loose their magnetism.
As for the top boot problem, try using a piece of 6 mil plastic as a
space
before you put the snap on. That should take up any of the slack
between
the
buttons. If your stainless steel boot trim is broken, I know where to
get
it
exchanged for repaired/re welded units. Paul in CT.....

Subject: [FC] Speedometer Question
Hello All;
Is there a way to test a used speedometer before putting it in the
vehicle?
I've tried two different used speedometers in my '63 Monza that were
bad.
They either read erratically or go straight to100 MPH.
There is also an intermittent whining noise. The odometers on both
speedometers seemed to work fine.
Also, for you convertible owners; has anybody had experience with
making
the
snaps on the top boot secure to the car?
Several of the snaps (mostly stress points - corners) on the repro top
boot
for my '63 will not stay on the car.
I've tried the shop manual suggestions, i.e. making the plastic/metal
hold-downs tighter.
It seems that the female buttons on the top boot are bigger than the
male
snaps on the car that they are supposed to snap on to.
