The state of California might be correct.  Many states back then went by the
date of manufacture, not the model year.  I ran into this problem back in 1963
with my Corvair Spyder that was manufactured in October 1962.  New Hampshire
registered it as a 1962.  When I brought it to New Jersey, they registered it
as a 1963.  Back then, the states were aware of what other stated did and just
made the correction.  Paul in CT....
