<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>John Weigel is exactly right. I'ts always
cheaper to buy a perfect body than to repair a bad one. My brother got his car
for free so, spending money on the body was ok. I personally have
always believed that the better the car you start out with, the better the car
will be when completed. If you start out with a bad car (body-wise) it is
nearly impossible to create a perfect car. </FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>If a convertible is not a must, that makes things
easier. Because of their construction, the convertible bodies tend to have
very rusty rocker panels. Coupes have a lot less structural problems, even
when they do have rust. If you go looking for a body don't forget that in
addition to eBay, craigslist, and corsa, you can keep scanning the hemmings
website that has on-line ads and Clark's website also has ads for
cars. </FONT></DIV>

<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>My 2 cents...</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>Unless you are doing it yourself, body work
probably is the most expensive thing about restoring a car. And it
essentailly an initial minimum fixed cost, i.e. you're going to invest at
least $xxx, whether the car is a Yugo or a GTO. My approach is to
buy the most solid body with the best paint condition you can
afford, and fix up or transfer in the mechanical stuff. Considering how
many good Corvairs are still in hot dry places, investment-wise, I don't see
how it's worth it to fix major rust, unless you have your own
compelling personal reasons. Please, I'm not knocking anyone here -
I'm only speaking from a purely objective, money viewpoint. </FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>Call someone in one of the chapters in the
southwest and ask them about Corvairs that might be available in their
area. If you talk to a chapter officer, I would hope that you'll get an
honest opinion. I've bought one car from Texas and one
from New Mexico from Corsa members. I don't know if my
experience was typical, but after talking to the sellers on the phone and
getting some pictures, I felt comfortable that they were square deals
(and they were). Expect cross country shipping to run ~$1K and
you'll get a feel for how much you'll have to pay.</FONT></DIV>

want more details.</FONT></DIV>

had no idea it was so expensive. The only thing my car has that I care

getting a rust free body is cheaper than replacing the rockers and whatever
other body work it needs? What I have now is a great parts car
