<DIV>Dave,</DIV>

<DIV> We had a Mechanic Class 2 (a
"helper") in the garage at Hendrie's, (the company I worked 33 years for)
and he basically did the same thing Rich did but he got hurt much
worse. He too was welding something using an empty barrel of
Dri-Gas as a table and when it blew one whole end off the barrel, it damn
near took his scalp with it. Joe was unconscious on the garage
floor in a pool of blood when one of our drivers returned from a run and
stepped inside to write his fuel and oil numbers on the clipboard and saw
Joe on the floor. Joe was lucky that Tom came along when
he did or he would have bled out. They got him to the hospital,
stitched him up and he was back to work the next day. He looked
like one of the guys in the Revolutionary War picture with the flag, the
fife or the drum who had the rag wrapped around his head and the blood
trickling through. You've got to be aware of what you're welding
on and I'm sure Rich will be from now on. It must have been an
adventure for your mother when you guys were kids.

<DIV><BR></DIV>hey gang me again, heres one for you and it didn't happen
to me. nope it happened to my brother this afternoon. he was doing some
welding in his garage on a 55 gallon drum that he was preparing for paint
and then to be used for a small oil drum for his shop. know my
brother is very very anal about a lot of his work and this was no
exception. he drained the oil then washed it out with lacquer thinner and
he thought that he removed the cap so that it would drain. but big
mistake. he didn't remove it so it hung there for two days and today he
was going to weld the spicket on to the end of the drum. he touched the
drum with a live welding rod and booooooommmm. the end of the drum blew
off and went up thru the ceiling thru the attic and then thru the roof and
landed out in the yard. the rest of the drum blew up and to the left thru
the ceiling then back down thru a cabinet and the in to the wall. it blew
out the out side window smashed the lights on the ceiling, it took down 3
and a half sheets of 3/4 sheet rock and as far as my brother goes well
some thing hit him in his hand maybe a broken finger and a small
burn and he cant hear to good out of his left ear. other then that
he's good to go. so we are all happy that some was watching over him. rich
never makes mistakes like this it is all was me that dose that, so i
thought that i would share this with you all, be safe and check your
work always before you do any welding burning or mixing anything around
heat Dave c.
