Today, we lost a Corvair lover, my Dad….

 

Tiverton, RI—- Donald G. Silvia, 79, of Tiverton, passed away on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River. He was the loving husband of fifty-four years to the late Barbara A. (Camara) Silvia. Donald was born in Fall River the son of the late Manuel R. Silvia Jr., and Irene (Rego) Silvia. He was a graduate of the BMC Durfee High School class of 1954. Donald began his career operating Silvia’s Garage in Fall River. 

 

Donald then worked for Burton Industries as a wireman, while earning his Associates Degree in Electrical Engineer Technology from BCC in 1984. He then became a project manager at Raytheon in Portsmouth for thirteen years, after which he was employed at ECS in Fall River as a technician for several years until his retirement in 2000. 

 

Donald enjoyed photography, woodworking, being with his family and friends, listening to jazz music and working alongside his wife at her business, the Candle Cellar.  He was also very active with the Bay State Corvair Car Club. 

 

Survivors are three sons: David A. Silvia and his wife Cynthia of Dartmouth; Paul M. Silvia and his wife Debra of Westport; and Stephen M. Silvia and his wife Diane of Fall River; three grandchildren: Adam, Elliot and Elizabeth. 

 

His Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at 10:30am from the Hathaway Home for Funerals, 1813 Robeson Street, Fall River, follow by a Mass of Christian burial at 11:30am in Saint Theresa Church, 265 Stafford Road, Tiverton. Relatives and friends are invited to attend, burial to follow in Saint Patrick Cemetery Fall River.
