We took the Corvair out for its first "real" show yesterday in Whitman MA
for the 13th annual Cruisin' New England Spooktacular. It was a benefit for
D.A.R.E. and it was by far the most fun, family-oriented show I've been to.
There were over 300 cars in all..from 1930's to 2000's This was the last
show in a series that culminated with last week's "Top 100 Showdown" at City
Hall Plaza in Boston..(supposedly 30,000 people went to that one!)
Some really great custom hot rods, excellent original 50's-80's cars (even
an Edsel that had a filthy, untouched original engine.) A few nicely done
"modern" show cars..but the highlight was the display of decorated classic
cars..
There were cars of ALL kinds (all decked out with fake blood, gargoyles,
strobe lights and cobwebs), one family even brought their own Hanted House
in a big black plastic tent, complete with smoke machine and sound effects..
It was really cool to see a '57 Chevy with Frankenstein behind the wheel,
and a wrecked 10 speed bike under the grill with a "victim" skeleton
stretched out on the hood! Some were actually gruesome, but most were well
thought-out and funny.
My wife pointed out that our Corvair was one of only a few "HAPPY" Halloween
cars, we had cartoon ghosts and pumpkin guys on the windows, some green
cobwebs, and a goofy inflatable skeleton driving. We just don't do
"ghoulish" at our house! There were also pumpkin carving, cake decorating,
and costume contests going on all day!
Certainly mark this one on your calendars next year..it was a blast!!
I'll be submitting some nice pics for the newsletter, too.
