BSCC- Stripped threads on father's day!

Well, I had hoped to "finally" tune the Corvair's engine into perfection
after installing some throttle shaft seals, but when I went to bolt the
carbs back down..."POING"..the gut-wrenching sound/feel of a carb stud
pulling straight out of the cylinder head.

I tried to clean it up and drive the stud deeper, into what good threads
remained at the bottom, even with loc-tite, but it all just pulled out again
in one solid piece.

I ended up going to Autozone for a Helicoil kit. It came with a special tap
(WAY better than the Job-Lot one I had) and a thread insert matching the
pulled stud. You just drill (an EXACT sized hole for the insert) and tap new
threads for it. The insert screwed right in, nice and straight, the stud
screwed right down into that, and I was back in business!!

Now I just have to get it running nicely. Easier said than done for some
reason!
