Hello all Dave c. here, just got done swapping out gas tanks in the 61.
Cheryl's car. took about an hour and 9 Mins. everything went well.she burped a
little bit then cleared her throat and came right back to life. the lank was
removed once before because there was some type of black goop on the top and side
of the tank acting like a patch. didn't work. i found that the ground was bad
on the tank so replaced it and the gauge works fine now. there was no rubber or
anything except white grease on the tank strap.( WRONG) this made the dirt
stick to it and it worked like 36 grit sand paper and helped ware holes in the
tank, do not do this. if you don't have anything to put on the strap try an old
piece of radiator hose. just a couple of inches maybe two or three chunks
slide it over the strap. One on both ends and one in the middle of the strap.
this will hold the strap off the tank and no more rubbing. Put a little lube on
the sending unit gasket it will help it seal, tap the ring on slowly and
softly. just a little info. hope it helps someone someday. Good night and see ya's
soon. Dave c.
